Wednesday, June 26, 2019, is a day that will always be remembered by Professor Sangkot Marzuki. Located at the Ir. Hall. Fachruddin Hasanuddin Postgraduate School, former Director of the Eijkman Institute Institute received appreciation from the Hasanuddin University academic community through the “Tribute to Professor Sangkot Marzuki: Science Knows No Boundaries” program. The event was carried out collaboratively by the Postgraduate School, Professor Council, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Dentistry.

Rector of Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, had the opportunity to open the event. In his speech, Prof. Dwia explained the relationship that had long been established between Hasanuddin University and Prof. Sangkot Marzuki. Prof. Sangkot Marzuki has long established close relations with the previous Unhas Chancellor, which began with Prof. Radi A Gani. Prof. Sangkot has also contributed greatly to the Medical Forum in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine for the process of transferring knowledge with Hasanuddin University scientists.

In addition to the Rector of the University of Hasanuddin, a special speech was also given by the Dean of the Graduate School, Prof. Jamaluddin Jompa and the Dean of the Graduate School of Mahidol University, Prof. Patcharee Lertrit. The two figures gave their highest appreciation to Prof. Sangkot Marzuki who had been their teacher for a long time. Prof. Jamal Jompa stated, “Prof. Sangkot and I were involved together in various forums of interdisciplinary scientists named KAVLI, SCIENCE 45 and ALMI.” Meanwhile, Prof. Patcharee herself had an emotional closeness with Prof. Sangkot who had become a teacher and role model for her since she was still a student until she became the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies of Mahidol University. “Prof. Sangkot has been a role model for me for a long time. He has inspired me to do the best for science. “

Beside that, a testimony to Prof. Sangkot Marzuki was also given by a number of colleagues who worked together at the Eijkman Institute and Monash University. It was Prof. Herawati Supolo-Sudoyo who had witnessed Prof. Sangkot Marzuki’s journey across nations with science through the Eijkman Institute. Prof. Herawati explained how Prof. Sangkot Marzuki finally decided to return to Indonesia to continue the Eijkman Institute at the request of BJ Habibie. From there, Prof. Sangkot has contributed greatly to the development of science Indonesia. In addition, three other colleagues from Prof. Sangkot Marzuki also gave “Words of Reflection”, namely Prof. Kevin Baird, Prof. Hans Pols, and Bruce Alberts. Each of them mentioned messages and impressions while working with Prof. Sangkot Marzuki.

In addition to the Tribute to Prof. Sangkot, the Postgraduate School also launched a new institution for Interdisciplinary studies namely, CEISS (Center of Excellence for Interdisciplinary and Sustainability Science) and formally collaborated with the Postgraduate School of Mahidol University.
